1. Lemon

For instant and quick relief from bad breath, chew or suck a lemon wedge. This stimulates saliva production which washes away the odor. The citric acid present in lemon kills the bacteria.

2. Lemon and Salt Mouthwash

This process helps solves dry mouth problem by encouraging saliva production.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt in a cup of water.
  • Swish your mouth with this mixture for few minutes.
  • Rinse your thoroughly with water.
  • Repeat 2 times a day.

3. Lemon Oil with Other Essential Oils

Tea tree oil contains anti-fungal and antiseptic properties which kill the bacteria causing bad breath.
  • Mix few drops each of lemon oil, peppermint oil and tea tree oil in a glass of water.
  • Swish the mixture for few minutes and spit it out.
  • Rinse with water thoroughly.
  • Repeat 3 times a week.

4. Lemon Tea

  • Brew a cup of tea (ginger or cinnamon or green tea or any other of your choice).
  • Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to it.
  • Stir well and consume it slowly.
  • Repeat 2 times a day.

5. Lemon Ice Cubes

This process is useful for people suffering from dry mouth and throat.
  • To an ice tray, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice in each segment.
  • Fill the remaining with water and stir carefully.
  • Put the ice tray in the refrigerator and allow them to freeze.
  • Once ice cubes are formed, pop them out and store in a zip-lock bag.
  • Whenever you want a fresh breath, suck a lemon cube or put a lemon cubes in a glass of water and drink it.

6. Lemon Cinnamon Mouthwash

  • Take a jar with tight lid.
  • Add juice of 2 lemons, 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon powder, 1 1/2 teaspoon honey and 1 cup of warm water.
  • Stir the ingredients well.
  • Whenever you need to freshen up your breath, swish 2 tablespoons of the mixture for 1 minute.
  • Remember to shake the jar well before using it.
  • Alternatively, you can use baking soda instead of honey. But don’t combine both the ingredients in the mixture.

7. Lemon and Olive Oil Gargle

  • Add 1 tablespoon each of lemon juice and olive oil to a cup of water.
  • Use this mixture to swish/gargle for 1 minute.
  • Repeat as required.

8. Lemon Peel

  • Peel the skin of the lemon and place them on a plate and dry under the sun.
  • After they are completely dried, blend them to make a fine powder.
  • Whenever you want to freshen up your breath, make a paste of lemon peel powder and water. Use this mixture and brush for 1 minute and rinse off with water.
  • Repeat as required.
  • Alternatively, you can just chew a fresh lemon peel.

9. Lemon with Yogurt

The combination of lemon and yogurt destroy the bacteria and keep your breath odor free for at least 10 hours.
  • Combine 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of yogurt.
  • Apply the mixture on your teeth.
  • Rinse off after 20 minutes.
  • Repeat as required.

  • If you are allergic to citric acid, avoid lemons.
  • The citric acid present in lemons can erode your tooth enamel and cause sensitivity. So be careful if you are using it daily.
